This is the furniture my father, brother, and I designed and produced in the seventies. The basic "paper" tubes (spiral-wound fiber cores) were custom-made for us by Sonoco (a provider of packaging products). We cut the tubes with handheld power tools. Lasers were not affordable at the time. We made a wide variety of pieces for the home and office and as displays for major department stores, including Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, and the May Company. The photos were taken in our showroom.
This was the era of fern bars and fake Tiffany lamps, when the “natural look” was in vogue. We eventually went on to paint the furniture in bright shiny colors as the eighties neon aesthetic hit us up side the head.
